I believe people should be challenged and this is how strong individuals are made. I do not lower standards and make martial arts simple in order to get a lot of students. I rely on the quality of our students and art in order to set us apart from the others and achieve success. Mu Sool Tang Soo Do is not Tang Soo Do combined with Hapkido or Hwa Rang Do. It is a traditional comprehensive martial arts system that is derived from the rich and varied martial arts techniques that have arisen in Korea through the ages.
Mu Sool Tang Soo Do is a complete comprehensive traditional Korean martial art. It’s foundation is in Tang Soo Do. It has been enhanced by Master Ruffing’s training in Hapkido, Hwa Rang Do and Soo Ho Ji Moo.
I felt that Tang Soo Do was a great martial art; however, it lacked different aspects of martial arts such as: ground fighting, joint manipulation, weaponry, throwing, complete sparring etc. It’s forms were too simplistic and I felt a change was needed. I have been in martial arts since I was 12 and I have seen other limited martial arts styles such
as Tae Kwon Do. I feel students of these arts are not learning authentic martial arts. They are learning a watered down Americanized version of martial arts. I realized that Tang Soo Do, although traditional, was too similar to TKD.
